Nigeria’s hopes of reaching the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup are over after the Flying Eagles suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat to Burkina Faso in the WAFU B U-20 Championship final.

The defeat means Nigeria miss out on the 2027 U-20 AFCON in Ghana, with Burkina Faso securing the zone’s qualification ticket. Without a place at the U-20 AFCON, the Flying Eagles can no longer compete for one of Africa’s slots at the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.
It was another difficult night for Nigerian football, with the Super Falcons also falling to a 1-0 quarter-final defeat against Cameroon at the WAFCON.
However, unlike the Flying Eagles, the Falcons’ World Cup hopes are NOT over. They still have a playoff route to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
What do you think is hindering Nigeria’s progress?
